3 step felt sunglass case

Its the middle of May and while June 21 is the beginning of Summer - here in our neck of the world OUR SUMMER officially begins Wednesday the 22nd of May. The last day of school for my 2 youngest children is the 22nd at 11:45 to be exact so lots of time in the summer sun is ahead of us.

This past weekend we went to Palm Springs and my sun glasses just lay freely in my bag - banging about - so with plans for summer outings in the works I figured I better get a case for my glasses - quick or I am sure I'll be shelling out lots for new glasses with the scratches and dings left on my shades...enter my "CRAFTINESS" lightbulb moment:
Quick 3 step sunglass case

Supplies needed: Felt, ribbon and embellishments

(1)Cut a square piece of felt (when closed will cover your sunglasses) - once you have your square cut grab some ribbon and lay it out -
(2)once you figure out the look you want straight stitch it on to the felt.

(3)Next turn the felt right sides facing each other and sew up the 2 sides - then turn inside out

The three steps are done but once you have a turned the case right side out you COULD add your embellishments - I added what I thought were hand sewn & cut feathers but my daughter said they look like leaves - oh well.
At least it looks good on.

I am super thrilled with my new sunglass case and so are my sunglasses - no more roughin' it and banging away in my purse...

I hope you have a chance to make one to suit your fancy.

Handmade table cloths

I have something to share with you today.  An idea I am sure you have heard of or seen before but something that came out of sheer necessity - Isn't that the mother of all inventions? I mean isn't it when you are the most desperate that you come up with the most amazing ideas.

Here is how my idea came about.
I do craft boutiques and was borrowing a friend of mines burlap table cloths for about the last year and 1/2 or so - when she asked for them back last Christmas I figured I need something just as cool - while burlap is inexpensive it doesn't come in the right width or length...so I looked around and didn't really like any of the other fabrics out there. then I remembered that I had heard people were using drop cloths for pillows and curtains...so I went to Home Depot to look for a drop cloth and they come in several sizes I bought 9 ft. by 12 ft which if cut in half you can cover (2) 6 foot tables with plenty of over hang on all 4 sides. I bought an extra 6ft by 9ft to make ruffles with

I gotta tell you that I thought drop cloths were a cream color almost like a canvas but this one was kind of grey-ish and really thick - kind of vintage & French in look. LOVE IT!

I know its hard to see the true color and texture here but its quite nice.

Here is the table cloth with ruffles in its true colors

Here is an up close look at the ruffles.
Can I just say that I think I should have thunk it through a bit better...
doesn't lay as nicely as I had hoped.

I love this material and I am just thinking up the projects I can do with this - maybe some shabby French pillows oh the ideas are endless and this was way cheap....

pincushions-a new twist

so I must have this small - teensy weency obsession with pin cushions lately...
cuz I made some more.
aren't they sweet? I know this has been done before - it's not like I discovered this on my own
but it was the first time I tried it and with NO tutorial. So I thought I would make one up for you.
But please be aware that this by no means is the RIGHT way or the BEST way to make this...
it is JUST MY way.

so you'll need a small 1.00 frame from Michaels,

some fabric, some stuffing and a glue gun.
Fist thing I did was cut the frame away from the frame backing...then I glued
on some from around the chipboard frame then I glued around it a bit more until
I formed a pocket and stuft that pocket with stuffing.

then finished the sluing around the back then because the frame NO longer fit properly
I glued it in place.

see how sweet - but DONT go looking at the back of the frame - gotta cover that up.

anyway, its a cute idea to add this with some fun sewing supplies and make a great gift for a gal pal.

Quick and easy

I made these vacation bags for our trip to Colorado this past spring and thought I would share them. These are super easy - new sew ruffled totes...just used hot glue. Whacky right? They are great for packing the kids car "things to do" bag & then just a quick grab & fill when we head to the pool or to the store. Neato! xo
