Playing with Felt

I am an avid crafter and even more dedicated scrapbooker and because of that I have all the tools needed in the paper crafting area. I used to have a cuttlebug die cut machine and sold it to pay for the Sizzix Vagabond and on occasion I pull the beastly thing out and die cut  all day long - My studio space is part of the living room so I I don't have all my tools out with easy access. One day..I will but for now I have to pull it out on the kitchen table and die cut my heart out.

This week I took a day and die cut felt flowers for use on some banners and some other projects but I had a specific project in mind.

Let me share - here I am die cutting - I like when I can cut a lot out of each run of the machine...

Here are all my flowers - just waiting for some fun projects...Made lots and it took a few hours...

So I found this cool felt pouch at a local thrift store and I thought I could use it for something - I was really hoping it would fit my IPAD air - it was only 1.99 so I figured - what the heck.

Heres the pouch... simple but well sewn.

This is what the front of the pouch looks like which I accented it with those felt flowers I cut

and this is back of the pouch - didn't it come out great. Very girly but then again - I am a girls girl.

and best part was

It fit my IPAD - BONUS!!!!

When you stop to think about it - customizing anything that needs a little personality is quite easy and felt flowers well - you can't go wrong with those lovelies...

Washi tape saves the day!

I know I am not alone when I say that I am IN love with Washi Tape! I mean forget about the amazing ray of patterns and color but it's remove able and is reasonably priced so it's easily collectible! So here was my dilemma: my 2nd grader needed some valentines for his class party this Friday...

I mean how could I resist this face- so because he's a boy and they are not about bringing candy to school (anymore) I wanted to try something different. Here's where my other love for the dollar store comes in...every holiday they have coordinating pencils out in abundance. $1.00 for 12 so I bought 4 packs=$4.00 then I found these cute pencils toppers at michaels for 2.97 - 40% = cheap! Came with 30 toppers (maybe more) 

Then I looked on Pinterest (another love of mine) for some cute pencil inspired valentines ideas and came up with the slogan VALENTINE YOU ARE ALL WRITE...get it? Cute right? 

Then I headed over to picmonkey and crated my own design on their site some for boys and some for girls....and printed them out in super small fashion 3x5 size. Ok everything is looking good - here are my supplies getting started...

Then the hardest part was how to attach the pencil to the tine♥️

I tried several ways...here's my proof

I punched some funky makeshift holes but then it looked icky, then I forced the pencil in and the whole valentine was bent- yuck, then I tried folding it and taping it but most of the valentine was gone - arghhh- then it hit me the solution to my problem was the beautiful and lovely and oh so readily available on my work table WASHI TAPE...

Nod here are the finished Valentines day gifties for my little boys class! Score 1 for the super crafty mom that I am (wink wink) then my 14 year old comes out and says oh wow those are super cute good job mom....I mean really Score 2 for me - my days I starting out beautifully! 

By the way - this whole do hickey cost me less then 5.00 and with plenty to spare for my girls to keep for themselves!

Happy New Year

Not sure its such a great idea to shut down for the entire month but sometimes I think it's just necessary to do. It's good for the soul. ---- Soul searching outcome:

I have been busy making, hosting, selling and just being alive and doing with my kids. I can honestly say that I have been present in our lives this entire month. It's quite the accomplishment, if you ask me. I usually get all caught up with holiday happenings, I go nuts and a little buying crazy (not this year), I most always over extend myself and accept to many holiday parties, and I usually commit to too many activities with my kids over the school winter break. But not this year.

We had this announcement made to our family, that this year would not be over the top. Quite frankly they didn't deserve it and I was not afraid to tell them. So we kept it simple and less then normal under the tree and we received the response not expected, which was wow that was great - no one complained of I didn't get enough. Wow, did the warning make a difference or are my kids getting older and get that its not the quantity but rather the quality and the thought behind the idea,,,hahaha I know wishful thinking....

We had a beautiful Christmas. We had people over and didn't over do things. I think maybe because we had only people that matter to us, no one we were trying to impress. It made for a nice night.



The only damper on my winter break is that I got sick, blah!!! I never get sick you know beyond the usually headache, sniffles or allergy attack. Well, I got a small cough right before Christmas and then the day after Christmas it came back with a vengeance. Its not a wet cough, kind of a tickle in the throat cough that leads to a coughing frenzy! It sucks, a few days I was completely out of it. Over tired and lethargic and just zoned out. As I write this, the cough is less but seems to act up at night which sucks and doesn't let me sleep...but I have energy and I don't feel physically sick - Thank God for small favors. I am just waiting anxiously for it to be GONE forever.

These are the items you need: simple!

 

Lay the stickers down

 

then stipple your ceramic pens all around the letters

 

Use multiple colors.

 

then remove stickers, clean up any bleed thru and add more dots as needed.

 

then add something cute on the other side to finish it off. Follow the manufacturers directions for baking it ON. Cute idea, right?

 

I am planning on making more of these for my family.

Journal Thursday

I craft ALOT and daily! There are a few crafting areas that I love and don't do well and would love to learn more about them - the first thing is sewing! I really wish I could make my own clothes and follow a pattern-my biggest problem is being precise. Also don't have much patience! So I need to deal with that. First step is admitting you have a problem! 

My second area is JOURNALING - I absolutely love the idea - I covet all those amazing pages I see on Pinterest - the beauty of the techniques & the journaling atop of the art AMAZING! But when I try - well not great but I keep trying every once in awhile. I decided to make myself get better at JOURNALING so I will give myself a prompt a week and journal. 

Here is my first attempt - even though I did it in July while I was on vacation....at least I was trying

I used some watercolor crayons. And used my finger to blend the hair and the flowers on the side. 

See not much technique here mostly journaling, which is why I am making this commitment to myself, hopefully I follow thru. Next week my prompt is ME now (journaling done on my birthday in August)

Is it too early?

 

I know its July and I know there are still technically 6 months left until Santa pays us all a visit. But I am in "Ornament" mode...trying to come up with some cute ideas for my show in October. This one is real simple just using a wooden star - stamping some fun old script onto it then adding a little vintage wreath - the whole ornament fits in my palm. Sweet right>>>

Kickin' it up a Notch

Wow - are we seriously almost going into August? Boy that's what happens when you take a 19 day vacation...right?

 

We took a ROAD TRIP through 9 states and we stayed in 7 states and shopped all over the country ---

 

 

we made a pit stop in Cheyenne Wyoming - to say the least it was a quaint little town and just oozing with country charm

 

 

 

capitol building - the top was shiny GOLD - ohhh pretty

 

the town was super vintage especially this old theater--love the old time movie clip photos...COOLNESS

and here is their DOWNTOWN...gawww...could you just fall in love

 

 

Couldn't you just see yourself riding around town in one of these trolly's instead of the BUS-

UM yeah!!!

 

then right in the center of town by the train station --- 2 over sized boots - cool and both extremely cool and painted detail was amazing...

Whilst in the sweet town I stopped in a few antique stores and bought a few things for my friends back at home...

I bought some of these sweet little bars of lavender soaps but they were just a bit to plain for me.

 

 

So I figured it just needed a bit of a kick - you know something to make it sparkle and look more like a real gift. SO I took some scraps of paper (literally just pieces) and some self adhesive rhinestone-ish pieces...

 

I wrapped the paper scraps around the soap then used 1 glue dot to attach the edges together.

 

Oh then the finishing touch is 1 flower and the jewel right in the center.

 

kicked up a notch and it went over so well. They loved it...

 

Anyway, it doesn't take much to make the less then perfect or the not quite so expensive gift seem so much BIGGER & BETTER.

Pom Pom LoVe

On our way to the beach today I decided to get busy on making some Pom poms. My hubbs asked "what are those for?" & with no hesitation I replied "Haven't you heard Pom poms are all the rage." He laughed. 

But, I am sure you know after looking on Pinterest that Pom poms are hip, trendy and offer pure happiness - at least I think so!!!!
